Tips for Protecting Your Skin After a Laser Treatment

Everyone wants to feel confident in their skin while looking their best. While cosmetic surgery and injectables like BOTOX® have their place, sometimes you want a fresh complexion without undergoing an invasive procedure. That’s where laser treatments come in.

Our Ethos Medical Group aesthetic team is proud to bring you the latest in laser treatments to revitalize your skin. PicoSure® resurfaces skin, treating everything from acne scars and freckles to unwanted tattoos and lesions. Laser treatments have anti-aging benefits, too: TempSure™ Envi and Pellevé® minimize sagging skin and wrinkles to give you a more youthful appearance.

Laser procedures are loved by men and women alike because they deliver firmer, more even skin without the need for injections or cosmetic surgery. But there are a few things to know before you have your first laser treatment.

We perform laser treatments on nearly all skin types and skin tones, but in the days following your procedure, your skin is more sensitive. Get our best tips for protecting your skin right here.

1. Use sun protection

To prevent skin cancer and premature aging, you should always wear sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30. Protecting your skin from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays is particularly important following laser treatment.

Laser treatment resurfaces your skin, which means it’s more sensitive to the sun. It’s more likely to get irritated and to burn. Stay out of the sun as much as possible in the weeks following your laser treatment. If you have to be in the sun, wear a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.

2. Find gentle cleansers and moisturizers

Our team may give you a prescription ointment or cream to use in the days after your laser procedure, along with instructions for caring for your skin. In some cases, you may need to cleanse your skin several times a day and apply topical medication.

As your skin begins to heal, consider adding gentle cleansers and moisturizers to your skin care routine. Moisturizing your skin can help reduce feelings of itchiness and tightness, which are common following laser revitalization.

3. Avoid harsh products

Be prepared to live with bare skin for up to a few weeks after your laser treatment. In general, we recommend avoiding any unnecessary products to give your skin time to heal. This may include makeup and anti-aging products, like retinol.

The time it takes your skin to heal following laser treatment depends on your skin and the type of procedure you had. Gentle laser treatments may heal in just a few days, while more intense resurfacing procedures may take several weeks.

Your skin continues to rebuild new, healthy cells for several months after your laser treatment. Once your skin has healed and isn’t red or swollen, you can reintroduce your normal skin care routine.

With these tips and our guidance, you can enjoy clearer, more even-toned skin with the help of laser technology. Send us a message to find out more about the laser treatment that’s right for you or booking a consultation with us online.
